Medicinal acupuncture can be used for a variety of issues. It involves the application of thin needles in to specific points in the body called acupoints. Once stimulated, these acupoints allow the release of the body’s natural painkillers such as endorphins which helps to reduce your discomfort.

Acupuncture also helps to increase blood flow which, like sports massage, assists in bringing good nutrition to an uncomfortable area as well as removing toxins that can build up over time.

Generally, a course of acupuncture used in conjunction with exercise therapy is more beneficial than a single session of acupuncture alone.

Acupuncture can be used successfully to help treat a variety of health complaints including but not limited to:

  • persistent headaches
  • neck pain
  • back pain
  • joint pain
  • nerve pain
  • nausea
  • persistent pain

As with all treatments, you will be asked screening questions prior to any course of acupuncture commencing. This ensures that you are suitable to receive this type of treatment and that you will be a good responder.

If you have any questions about acupuncture, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

*Please note, if you are suffering from pain or injury and have not had an assessment it would always be advisable to be assessed by a Physiotherapist prior to booking any course of acupuncture treatment. This allows both our Physiotherapist and you peace of mind that you will respond to needling and do not require any other forms of treatment which may be more beneficial to you.
